The Basingstoke-based UK subsidiary of Telematics International Inc, Fort Lauderdale, Florida has chosen the Motorola 68020 as the basis of its new Series 5000 Programmable Communications Processor, which has up to four times the processing power of the current models in its Net 25 line. The 68020 comes with 64Kb of cache memory, and the top model in the line offers throughput of over 2,000 switched packets per second. They are offered with 10Mb to 300Mb of disk storage, up to 448 communications channels, and each node can run a variety of standard or user-programmed protocols stored in the 16Mb of main memory. Existing switches can be upgraded, and prices start at UKP64,000. First ships are due to be made in August.
