Telefonica de Espana SA’s mobile arm, Telefonica Moviles, has signed an agreement with the European company Multiasistencia SA, a result of which Telefonica’s cellular subscribers will receive a special 24-hour assistance service. By dialing 2424, both analog and digital mobile telephony users who have contracted the extra service will be able to cancel stolen credit or telephone cards, request help for their vehicle while on the road, organize the repair of mobile equipment as well as domestic appliances, receive emergency medical aid when abroad and request travel information. The service will cost Telefonica clients an initial $2 fee plus $1.20 a month. Telefonica Moviles now has 1.15m subscribers – 1m using the MoviLine analog service and 150,000 using the MoviStar digital cellular network.
