TELEFONICA IN SOVIET PACT

Telefonica SA of Spain is close to agreement on a joint venture to manufacture telephone equipment in the Soviet Union, reports the Wall Street Journal. The plan is to make low-technology telephones and Telefonica may import some of the output. Most western firms are still cautious about Soviet joint ventures, because the new profit repatriation rules are still hazy.
