The International Telecommunication Union has closed its World Radiocommunications Conference in Geneva, having adopted draft agenda for two forthcoming conferences. These two conferences in 1995 and 1997 – plan to update the international radio regulatory processes in order to prepare for future requirements. It hopes the 1995 World Conference will simplify the processes for co-ordinating and registering radio frequency assignments, and also plans for it to decide how to allocate frequency bands for mobile communications satellite services, following its decision in March last year that such frequencies should be made available. The World Radiocommunications Conference in 1997 is intended to look mostly at space services, including the protection of space services in the 2.025GHz to 2.110GHz and 2.20GHz to 2,29GHz frequency bands, allocation issues of other unplanned space services, and search-exploration satellite services in the 401MHz to 403MHz, 13.4GHz to 13.75GHz and above 50GHz bands.
