Mannesmann AG’s telecommunications and automotive divisions have boosted the German steel giant’s results for the nine months to September 30. That division saw new orders jump 110% to $790m in the first nine months of this year. Overall Mannesmann’s orders rose 18% to $16,178m, while sales rose 9% to $13,848.57m. Although it gave no net figures on the nine-month results, the company said in August that it had cut its group net loss in the first half to $17.68m from $305.67m last year; it predicted a net profit for the full year. Telecommunications profits have risen steadily since the start of the year due to rapid growth of the D2 mobile telephone network. Mannesmann’s sales in this sector more than doubled over the 1993 period.
