On its new menu are virus scanning and content protection services, intrusion detection, secure remote access, and various round-the-clock monitoring options. TeleCity has built its new line in security services around the ICSA certified, ASIC accelerated FortiGate antivirus firewalls from Fortinet Inc, which provide high-speed SMTP and HTTP anti virus protection.

Fortinet’s firewalls scan applications like email, web and FTP traffic to stop threats at the network edge in near real time. The in-built proprietary FortiASIC chip is designed to provide high-speed firewalling, processing packets up to six times faster than software-based systems, it is claimed.

The managed security services will first be launched out of TeleCity’s UK data centers but the intention is to roll out the service across its European network in 2004, the company said.

Last June the vendor had to reduce its operational costs, it did this by exiting from co-location facilities in Manchester and Edinburgh in the UK and Munich in Germany. In the nine-month period ending November, Telecity revenues declined marginally to 17.7m pounds ($27.9m).
