European telcommunications companies are now managing 34% of internet access and are increasing their market share in an attempt to dominate, according to industry analysts Datamonitor. Deutsche Telekom and Telecom Finland have switched over users from videotext services to the internet and have the largest share of users at 55% of their home markets. All nine companies interviewed in the report are committed to offering enhanced services, such as shopping and banking, when secure online payment systems mature.
