Tektronix Inc returned to the work-station business two years after abandoning its NS32000-based 6000 series. The new 4000s feature two 68020s for better high resolution graphics than the competition, run Unix System V and have TCP/IP communications and support for X Window. The workstations are expected to offer two and three dimensional graphics software and software from the company’s CAE Systems division. Prices go from $19,000 to $50,000 and up. Tektronix was also expected to give details about a low-end 80386-based workstation in development, and tipped to go for $10,000.
