TEKTRONIX ACQUIRES SIEMENS WAN TESTING GROUP

Tektronix Inc has stepped in for Siemens AG’s $60m test and measurement business. All 230 employees at the Berlin location of Siemens Communications Test Equipment GmbH will join Tektronix along with 15 staff in Stockholm and the majority of a 45-strong sales force stationed around the world. Tektronix says it’ll take a $15-to-$20m second quarter charge to write off certain R&D projects at the unit. The SCTE business gives Tektronix a presence in the wide are network protocol analyzer market; it’s current products are targeted mainly at testing ISDN and telecom products and service. SCTE will continue to supply its former parent. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
