TEKELEC ADDS PROTOCOL MONITORING DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM TO ITS DATA TESTER

By CBR Staff Writer

Tekelec Inc of Calabasas, California, has a Protocol Monitoring Development System option for its Chameleon 32 data protocol test system. The system gives programmers the ability to customise Open Systems or any other protocol analysis applications. It includes an ASN.1 Abstract Syntax Notation compiler, Building Blocks and miscellaneous development tools. The Building Blocks are pre-written protocol stacks which include HDLC, X25, X225, X224, T.70 and T.62 – X400, G4FAX, FTAM and TCP/IP can be purchased separately. They can be used for standard application testing or modified for proprietary protocol analysis development. The system also includes a Protocol Definition Language for non ASN.1 compatible protocols. This is a high level language that can be used with C to create customised protocol monitoring applications. The system comes as an option to the Chameleon 32 costing $7,000. Chameleon 32 pricing starts at $19,000. Tekelec has also added monitoring applications, user-interface upgrades, and additional development options to its Chameleon 32 and Chameleon 20 data network test systems. Version 4.2 software includes a BERT Bit Error Rate Test application, Dual Line Display, and extended operation and development features. As well as this, Tekelec is releasing a new version of its C Development System option for the Chameleon 32. The BERT application software provides synchronous and asynchronous Bit Error Rate Testing. Users can select synchronous data rates from 50bps to 64Kbps and asynchronous data rates from 50bps to 19.2Kbps. The Dual Line Display feature represents network data in a two-line format showing the actual sequence of data as it was captured by the Chameleon. The Data Circuit-terminating Equipment data is displayed over the Data Terminal Equipment showing packets received from both sides of the line concurrently for instant analysis. Tekelec is also releasing an upgraded C Development System option for its Chameleon 32. This now includes 25 sample programs illustrating Chameleon 32 C programming capabilities. Chameleon software Version 4.2 and the new C Development System option will be available during the third quarter. Pricing for the Chameleon 32 system starts from $19,000 and the Chameleon 20 compact version of the 32, starts from $14,000. The standard software is included in all new systems, and upgrades are available to existing customers. The C Development System is $3,200.
