New Zebi OS software launched by Tegile Systems aims to provide more powerful VM-aware reporting and management features.

By Kate Heslop

Tegile Systems, a provider of hybrid storage arrays for virtualised servers and virtual desktop environments, has announced the second-generation of its Zebi OS. which it claims to provide better integration with VMware and Microsoft and even greater usability through an improved user interface.

Tegile’s software aims to simplify administration and optimise storage for various applications including virtualisation, file services and databases.

The new Zebi OS offers management tools and features that claim to deliver improved visibility into the capacity savings that Zebi arrays provide through data reduction, so that administrators can see the details of CPU activity, memory utilisation, space usage, network activity, disk activity and the status of other key system services at deeper granularity levels.

Ken Clipperton, senior analyst of analyst company DCIG, said: "Tegile’s VM-aware storage systems are designed for the virtualized data center and are demonstrably simpler to deploy and manage compared to legacy storage. By providing customers with the ability to view the health and overall status of the storage system, vendors like Tegile are empowering their users with an important tool that allows them to tune and optimise their virtualized environments."

Some of the new Zebi OS features include a vCenter plug-in, the ability to collect analytics from server data in the cloud, Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Sever (VSS) agent for improve data protection and the Thin Provisioning Stun VAAI feature to allow for better overall utilisation of storage and a reduction of storage costs.

The latest Zebi OS software will be included with every model of Tegile Zebi arrays beginning this month. Existing Tegile customers can inquire about upgrading their software to the latest revision by contacting their sales representative or emailing the company at support@tegile.com.
