Tecmar Technologies Inc is now shipping to resellers the Ditto Max Professional 10Gb tape drive technology it acquired from Iomega Corp back in March (CI No 3,624). Longmont, Colorado-based Tecmar’s version marks its initial entry into the US consumer market. Iomega itself sold no tape products larger than 7Gb to the US market, although a 10Gb Ditto drive was widely distributed in Europe. It is compatible with previous Iomega drives, but Tecmar says it’s added Ditto Tools, a more robust application than Iomega provided. It also ships with Tecmar’s Fullback system recovery software and Flash!File technology, which gives uses a 125Mb area to store frequently used files for retrieval in less than five seconds. The internal version costs $199 and the external on $249.
