Tech Data Corp is the latest to jump on the web caching bandwagon, signing up to distribute a Novell/IBM/Digi solution for storing recently access internet files. The package, announced in May, teams Digi’s Datafire SYNC/570 adapters with IBM’s Netfinity 3000 server running Novell BorderManager FastCache. It should accelerate net access speeds into any Unix, NT or NetWare network. Tech Data says the bundle is priced under $6000. It would want to be well under that figure, since sysadmins shopping for caching solutions have an embarrassment of options these days. Internet service providers can lease a CacheQube from Cobalt Networks Inc for around $30 a month (CI No 3,440), while @Home Corp is already building Inktomi Inc’s caching software into its network.
