Tech allows devices to wirelessly charge one another

IDT's Wireless Powershare technology can serve as both receiver and transmitter.

By CBR Staff Writer

Integrated Device Technology (IDT) today introduced its "Wireless PowerShare" technology, for people to charge their mobile devices wirelessly from other devices by placing them near or atop it.

The new wireless power solution enables a transition between the three leading standards: the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) standard for magnetic resonance and the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and ad (WPC) standards for magnetic induction.

The chip delivers 5 W to 10 W of output power and offers a proprietary mode that provides greater flexibility to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

"Consumers have been asking why, with all the remarkable advances in electronics, we remain tethered by power cords," said Arman Naghavi, IDT’s vice president of Analog Power Technology.

"Our Wireless PowerShare technology is a big leap in the right direction, allowing devices to charge one another, free from the tangle of wires," he added.
