A new Hispano-Japanese association, TEC-Espana, with a mission to facilitate technology transfer between the two countries, and to promote Spanish technological progress, has been launched in Spain. TEC-Espana already has nine members and hopes that most of the 60 Japanese companies with bases in Spain will join in the near future, as well as any Spanish companies that have bilateral connections with Japan. One of the founding members, CDTI, a Spanish technological and industrial development centre, has had an office in Tokyo for some time, and thus has considerable experience in technology transfer and dealing with Japanese companies. The new association’s only drawback is its name, which isn’t going to go down too well with the Japanese Tokyo Electric Company, whose Spanish subsidiary is already registered under the name TEC Espana SA.
