Team 121(Enable) Ltd, a Birmingham, UK SAP consultancy, is launching a pre-configured ‘SAP-in-a-box’ set of SAP applications targeted at small to medium-sized enterprises. The company claims the cut-down enterprise resource planning package cuts the cost of ERP implementations by 20%.

According to Gary James, Team 121’s SME sector manager, SAP-in-a-box delivers four key SAP modules covering supply chain, sales, purchasing, and production management, and allows users to get on with the business of managing their core business processes without becoming embroiled in a major IT project.

The Team 121 system will cost 375,000 pounds ($606.900) for a 25-seat implementation, which James claims is 20% cheaper than a conventional four-module SAP implementation cost 500,000 pounds ($809.199). These costs are calculated assuming a price of 25 pounds ($40.46) per user per day over the three-year term of the standard Team 121 contract, on the expiry of which customers retain ownership of their systems.

The advantages of the system, James claims, lies in its speed of implementation. He says that typical times are about five months, but says that the company hopes it can get it down to four. The system may be appropriate for small firms seeking rapid returns, but in the long-term, most companies will need to go back to SAP for further applications.
