Tele-Communications Inc reported Monday fourth-quarter and year- end results which consolidate those from its TCI and Liberty Media groups. For the quarter, net earnings were $724m on revenue which increased 19.8% to $2.16bn, compared to a net loss of $64m for the same period a year earlier. For the year ended December 31 1996, the company recorded a profit of $278m on revenue up 23.3% at $8.02bn. The solid ffourth quarter profit reflect the sale of more than $1bn in Time Warner Inc shares by Liberty Media. A spokesperson for TCI said that results were in line with expectations and that analysts are more speculative about first-quarter results, due out at the end of April. Earnings per share figures for Tele-Communications Inc are unavailable as the company is traded through the common shares of its subsidiaries.
