San Francisco-Moscow Teleport Inc has tested the Earth station equipment for the satellite link it is installing in Kazan, Tatarstan: the project uses International Telecommunications Satellite Organisation birds to achieve international access and the downlink for the service will be in Fuchina, Italy; construction of the satellite base station was by GTE SpaceNet Inc, and the station will have a capacity of 120 lines and the project also involves plans for a cellular telephone network and local assembly of communication equipment; the Tatincom enterprise jointly formed by the Tatarstan government and San Francisco-Moscow Teleport will be responsible for operating the station Commersant reports.
