Filling in the gaps on the new Tandy boxes (CI No 738), the $2,600 price on the 80386-based Model 4000 buys 1Mb CPU with 1.44Mb floppy, nine slots and space for two more drives; with 40Mb disk it’s $4,300.The $1,600 Tandy 1400 LT uses the NEC V20 chip and has a removable rechargeable battery pack, backlit supertwist LCD screen, two 720Kb3.5 floppies, 768Kb memory, and a 76-key keyboard. The new 1000 TX uses an 8MHz 80286 and is claimed to run at three times the speed of IBM’s PS/2 Model 30, comes with 640Kb memory, one 3.5 720Kb floppy drive, a joystick, serial and parallel ports, enhanced CGA graphics, MS-DOS and GW-Basic and an enhanced version of Tandy’s DeskMate 2 program for just $1,200. The 1000 HX is a $700 256Kb one-drive Personalike with MS-DOS in ROM, system configuration and user-selected start-up information in EEPROM. The new 1000s come with enhanced PersonalDeskMate 2 software to take advantage of enhanced CGA graphics. The 80286-based Tandy 3000 computer now runs at 12MHz and is just $2,000.Tandy also introduced the LP 1000, a $2,200 laser printer for the 3000 and new 4000 families. The 300 by 300 printer 6ppm has 1.5Mb memory.
