TANDY TO PAY UP TO $87m IN SHARES FOR GRID

By CBR Staff Writer

Now that it has floated off its international operati-ons as InterTan, Tandy Corp, Fort Worth, Texas, has had its name linked acquisitively with any number of companies, and the company has now made a move. It has definitive agreement to buy lap-top computer specialist Grid Systems Corp, Fremont, California, and will pay $55m up-front in Tandy shares for the firm, and up to $32.5m more in shares in stages up to December 31 1990 if pre-set performance goals are reached. Tandy will run Grid as a wholly owned subsidiary and says that Grid will enhance its development skills for laptop computers, open new opportunities in the government market and provide an alternative marketing channel to corporate users for other Tandy products.
