Tandon Computer Corp, the division of Tandon Corp that manufactures personal computers for the European market, has closed its computer production plants in Bombay and in Moorpark, California, says Computerwoche: the move, which took effect at the end of 1989, means that Tandon Computer’s entire manufacturing will from now on be conducted at its new Vienna site. Opened in March, the factory produced some 50,000 machines last year, accounting for sales of $67m, of which 90% were sold outside Austria; Tandon said that the production rate for the coming year could, on demand, be more than doubled, with monthly output of up to 15,000 computers possible. The European market is crucial to Tandon: the most recent figures show that $255.2m, or 90% of its total business was generated in Europe.
