Tandem Computers Inc has signed with Epoch Systems Inc for the latter’s network management software: the new local network-attached Tandem Image Storage Server, based on Epoch technology, speeds image storage and retrieval, integrating high-speed magnetic disk drives with high-capacity, low-cost optical disks – nearly 20m images can be stored and managed on a fully-configured server and multiple servers can be connected to the same local area network for greater capacity; the Epoch software automatically transfers active images to magnetic disk or RAM for quick user access, and stores inactive images on optical disks; the company already offers the Tandem Image Processing System and Product and Process Document Management; the four models offer initial on-line capacities of 20Gb, 57Gb, 93Gb and 327Gb, and all models can be extended with more RAM, magnetic disks, optical disks, and back-up tapes; an entry-level system that can store 464,000 images is $103,385; mid-range models start at $151,685 for a 1.2m image capacity system and $206,885 for a 1.9m image capacity system; and the largest model starts at $333,385 for 6.6m images.
