Tandem Computers Inc, Cupertino, California has a distributed lock manager, Oracle Corp’s Oracle Parallel Server and disaster recovery support due up on its Integrity NR line of re-badged Silicon Graphics Inc Challenge servers. Tandem’s HATS High Availability Transforming Software clustering middleware, already up on Network Resource, will not appear on its home-grown fault tolerant MIPS Technologies Inc R-series-based Unix boxes for a year or 18 months, some time after the symmetric multiprocessing versions are finally released, towards the end of the year. Tandem will extend the High Availability Transforming Software with a single-system image that will cluster eight or 16 nodes, compared with four now. Spec 1170 branding for Tandem Unix is a year or more away, the company says.
