Telecommunications has long been a major area of business for Tandem Computers Inc, and now the Compaq Computer Corp-owned Non- Stop computer firm’s ‘record-breaking growth’ in wireless telecoms has prompted it to open a new World Wireless Applications headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. The company’s Telecom Network Solutions branch apparently outgrew its previous office space, and Tandem says the wireless market is one of the fastest growing sectors for the company. It has seen record sales of wireless applications in the second and third quarters of fiscal 1997, and expects this growth to continue as more and more people use cellular and PCS Personal Communication Services phones as a primary mode of communicating, the company says. The facility will house 145 Tandem staff, and will primarily serve wireless communications service providers in North and South America.
