Tandem Computers Inc chief financial officer David Rynne told analysts in New York last week that the company expects to maintain its current gross margins, despite pricing pressures in the computer industry: its gross margins declined by two points in fiscal 1992; Jim Treybig, president and chief executive, told the meeting that Tandem has a few new systems in the works, including a very powerful high-end computer with improvements in processing power, and that it was preparing further Unix-based systems and some low-end computers that will run both Unix and the proprietary Guardian operating system; on timing he told Reuter only I would not be talking about them if they were too far off; the company also said it has cut its annual expenses by $90m to $95m through its restructuring begun in January.
