TANDEM HAS ORDER FROM EFTPOS

By CBR Staff Writer

Tandem Computers has been chosen to suuply its fault tolerant machines to a number of banks involved in the Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale scheme set up by EftPos UK Ltd: a message is sent to the EftPos switching centre when a consumer uses his debit or credit card to make a payment where it is directed to the computer of issuing company for authoristaion – confirmation returns via the same route and a receipt is automatically printed; a Tandem NonStop VLX is currently being tested but NatWest and the Midland have already committed themselves to Tandem; US West Information Systems’ subsidiary Applied Communications has a multi-million pound contract to provide software and services to EftPos.
