TANDEM HAS IPI CONTROLLER

By CBR Staff Writer

Tandem Computers Inc has designed a new disk controller, the 3120, that implements the Intelligent Peripheral Interface, which transfers data in parallel, and first use of the 3120 is in the new V80 subsystem, which takes up to eight 337Mb 8 drives. That formats to 2.1Gb, and transfer rate is 2.4Mbytes-per-second. Available now for NonStop VLX, TXP, EXT25, EXT10 and NonStop II systems, the V80 is $62,000 with four drives, $87,000 with six and $112,000 with eight. Two or four 3120s are needed at $20,000 apiece.
