Tandem Computers Inc has enhanced its NonStop CLX mid-range family of fault-tolerant processors with CLX 700 models to achieve greater expandability and increased performance, and cut prices on the CLX 600s. The CLX 700 series comes in four new models with the enhanced processor said to improve price performance over the CLX 600s, as well as having more main memory, disk and input-output capability. The CLX 700 comes configured as the 720, 740, 760 and 780 with two, four, six and eight processors, each processor having 8Mb of memory expandable to 12Mb or 16Mb per processor, for a total of 128Mb in a fully configured system. Out now, the CLX 720 is $105,000; the 740 $205,000; the 760 is $305,000; the 780 is $405,000. The CLX 600s are reduced by 7% to $53,000 for the 610 and $79,000 for the 620.
