Tandem Computers Inc is to ship an unspecified number of NonStop VLX fault-tolerant minis to the US Air Force Logistics Command to handle tracking and analysis of components used in advanced weapons and avionics systems of Air Force aircraft under one-year $12.4m sub-contract from Litton Computer Services, which has contract with options for 11 more years for the Reliability and Maintainability Information System; if all options under the contract are exercised, Tandem will ship systems worth $18m the first 40 months, including a seven-processor Tandem NonStop VLX system at each Air Logistics Center and an 11-processor system at headquarters, with about 20% growth in each of the next eight years; the value of the pact could be over $115m to the Mountain View unit of Litton.
