TANDEM ADDS BATCH AIDS, MORE ELECTRONIC MAIL LANGUAGES

By CBR Staff Writer

Tandem Computers Inc has announced NetBatch and NetBatch Plus batch processing software for its NonStop systems: NetBatch is a scheduler for batch jobs that enables system managers and operators to automate batch job execution on one or a network of Tandem systems, according to job priority, system load, and network configuration. It also keeps a log of batch activity. Tasks can be broken into several jobs and run simultaneously in different processors. For users who also want a full-screen user interface, NetBatch Plus bundles NetBatch with DB Batch FE, a batch front-end from MIS Information Systems Inc. NetBatch is $2,700 and $200 a month on NonStop VLX, TXP, and II systems; $1,350 and $100 a month on NonStop EXT, EXT10, and EXT25 systems. NetBatch Plus is $3,700 and $340 a month, and $1,850 and $170 a month respectively for the same two classes of machine. DB Batch FE is $2,700 and $200 a month or $1,350 and $100 a month. NetBatch and NetBatch Plus will be available in the second quarter, DB Batch FE is out now. DB Batch FE is just one of four batch packages from MIS Information Systems Inc, San Jose, that have been certified by Tandem as Independent Software Vendor products. The other three are Batch Plus, RM Batch Plus and DB Batch Plus, and MISwill market them directly to NonStop users under the Tandem Alliance.Tandem has also announced another eight natural languages for its PS Mail product, making it more attractive for multinational companies. Introduced in 1985, PS Mail is built on the Transfer information delivery software and is a distributed electronic mail system that provides communications among a variety of desktop devices including IBM 327x, conversational, or TTY terminals, and Personalikes and Tandem terminals. The enhancement adds presentation services for PS Mail in Danish, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Norwegian, Spanish, and Swedish. More than one language can exist on one or within a network of NonStop systems, and users of different versions can exchange messages. National language support is out now for German, Hebrew, Norwegian, and Swedish, with Danish, Finnish, French, and Spanish in April. It is free to PS Mail users and PS Mail is free to Transfer licensees for use with Tandem terminals and with IBM Personals connected to NonStop systems using PC LINK software. On 327x and TTY terminals, it’s $2,000, and $200 a month for all but the EXT low-end CPUs; on those it’s $1,000 and $100 a month.
