As if leaving its droppings all over the screen weren’t enough, Bandai Co Ltd’s Tamagotchi virtual pet, the keyring egg with tiny screen that displays over a week or two the life-cycle of a pet electronic bird, will soon be able to mate and hatch offspring, the Tokyo Shimbun reports. The fertile Tamagotchi, coming in both sexes, will be launched by Bandai in August; after mating with your friend’s chicken and hatching an chick, the parent eventually disappears after caring for the fluffy one, and the process can continue from generation to generation or until you get so bored you throw it away. Tamagotchi means lovable egg, and in May and June, Bandai will start selling angel fish and forest animal variations of the pocket toy.
