TALIGENT “TO LOSE HALF ITS 400 STAFF AND BECOME IBM SUBSIDIARY”

Taligent Inc’s fate is sealed and the company will become an IBM Corp subsidiary and a shadow of its former self, the PC Week News news wire believes. The announcement was expected after we closed yesterday. The wire believes that half the 400 employees will lose their jobs; it is not clear whether IBM will pay Apple Computer Inc and Hewlett-Packard Co anything for their holdings in Taligent, but it seems unlikely. Its Kaleida Labs Inc sister company was folded into Apple Computer Inc last week.
