Universal Scientific Industrial Company (USI), a Taiwanese electronics company with revenues of $517m has become the latest addition to the residents of Riverside Business Park, in Scotland, UK. USI plans to invest 15m pounds setting up its first European factory that will produce a broad range of computer peripherals and communication equipment components, said a spokesperson. The plant will begin production early in the new year. The Taiwanese company will become the neighbor of electronics giants such as NEC Semiconductors, Sun Microsystems and Motorola, in what has been referred to as Silicon Glen. Harvey Wu, USI’s vice president cited the availability of a skilled workforce and transport links as the reasons for the company’s decision to open what will become its European headquarters in Scotland. The new factory is expected to create 700 new jobs over the next 2-3 years.
