The Mitac Group is to expand its production capacity for PC manufacturing to 400,000 units next year, according to Taiwan’s Commercial Times. Its current capacity is 300,000. Mitac, which has a factory in Northern Taiwan, is Compaq Computer Corp’s largest OEM supplier, and sells around 200,000 PCs to Compaq per year. It will increase capacity both in Taiwan and overseas. Meanwhile, Mitac’s subsidiary Synnex Technology is also increasing production, to 22,000 units a month, in order to serve the local built-to-order market. Synnex is Taiwan’s largest PC distributor. Both companies have survived the recent market turmoil relatively unscathed.
