Taipei’s mayor and a raft of other officials will visit Silicon Valley next month to attract interest in a new technology corridor in the Taipei region, Taiwan’s central news agency has reported.
The officials are trying to persuade companies to locate their Asian business hubs in the corridor, which will include a new science park in addition to its existing two. Taiwan’s outreach efforts will be seen, in part at least, as an effort to slow down the mainland juggernaut.
China is host to a number of regional development centers, as companies look for a base to serve the Asia Pacific region, and to tap the massive potential market in China. The expected capacity of chip fabs under construction in China currently outstrips that in Taiwan.
