The president of the SEMI group, a global organization of semiconductor equipment manufacturers, claims that Taiwan will play a major role in the production of emerging semiconductor technologies such as copper interconnects. Stanley Myers, talking in interview with AsiaBizTech, Myers claimed that Taiwanese plants had a state-of-the-art approach both in reducing costs and technology and to remain at that level the manufacturers will have to play a role in the technical development of copper interconnects. Myers also noted signs of recovery in the device making, semiconductor sector, but was cautious about whether the upturn was permanent or related to seasonal demand.
