Taiwan businessmen are flocking to invest in Malaysia, attracted by the stable political environment, a developed infrastructure and abundant manpower, Agence France Presse reports: statistics from the Malaysia Investment Commission show that in 1988 Taiwan businessmen invested $800m in Thailand, or 2.5 times the amount put into projects in Malaysia, but that in the first half of this year the Malaysian authorities approved some 78 investment projects by Taiwan interests worth $356m – led by Acer Corp compared with $410m of investments in Thailand in the January-June period; the investments are overwhelmingly in the electronics industry, attracted by the many local manufacturers of semiconductors and peripherals.
