T-Mobile is planning to launch a new handset model in the early summer months.

Though details about the new handset model are not yet disclosed, it is believed that the device would be the new HTC Magic smartphone. It is also believed that the new device would use the Android ‘Cupcake’ operating system.

It has been reported in the media that T-Mobile was interested in expanding its Android offerings beyond the current G1 model. Google estimates that Android could be running on almost 20 different handsets and netbook devices by end of 2009.

T-Mobile has sold over a million of their existing phone, the G1. T-Mobile estimates reflect that there are currently more than 4,900 applications available for download in the android market, as reported in PC magazine.

Android is a consumer-oriented operating system, primarily developed by Google. It has a web browser and supports company’s online services like Gmail and Google Maps.
