Systems Center Ltd has released its Notekeeper software tool, said to automate management of Profs notes. It works with VMBackup, VMArchive and VMSchedule to automate notelog management, and it is planned to support OfficeVision by mid-year. The Reading, Berkshire-based company says that Notekeeper saves disk space and reduces staff demands by preventing users’ VM/CMS mindisks from filling up with Profs notes, and users can manage notelogs without leaving Profs. It prevents minidisks from filling up by automatically archiving notes on the basis of site-defined thresholds and site-defined retention periods. With the first, Profs administrators set thresholds of disk space usage as well as disk space used for Profs notes. When a disk reaches the threshold, Notekeeper archives and erases older notes. With site-defined retention periods, administrators can specify that all notes older than a certain number of days will be automatically archived and erased. With the Note Maintenance Facility, Notekeeper notifies users with a full-screen panel when disks are becoming full. Users may choose to have the oldest notes automatically archived immediately or later, or they may archive selectively. Notekeeper also reports on users, showing usage and indicating the amount of disk space consumed by Profs notes. The new software is available now at an entry price of UKP2,000.
