SyQuest Technology Inc chose Comdex Asia for the launch of the SQ1100, which it claims is the first 100Mb PC Card Type III removable hard cartridge drive, with matchbook size cartridges, for notebook and laptop computers. The cost for a single evaluation unit is $300 for the drive and one cartridge and $50 for each additional cartridge, making it less than 50 cents per Megabyte for incremental storage – which it says compares with up to $40 per Megabyte for Flash memory plug-in storage cards.
