Indianapolis, Indiana based Thompson Consumer Electronics Inc has signed up embedded browser specialist Spyglass Inc to fill what was described as a broad internet consulting role. The Naperville, Illinois based company says it will be providing Thompson, owner of the RCA and GE television brands, with technical expertise for future web-related products. Spyglass, which also signed a licensing deal with Sun Microsystems Inc in January this year (CI No 3,323), previously worked with Thompson to develop an electronic program guide and interactive services for its RCA NC internet television set-top box. David Harris- Evans, managing director of Spyglass Europe, described the latest move as a move away from a specific scope of work and towards a more strategic partnership, saying the companies would be focusing on developing interactive TV products. Harris-Evans added that the company has signed several similar licensing deals with other companies but could not release details yet.
