SynOptics Communications Inc, Santa Clara, California is to buy Coral Network Corp for about $15m. The boards of both firms have approved the acquisition, and it is expected to be completed in the next 30 days, SynOptics said. Privately-held Coral Network, based in Westborough, Massachusetts, develops and markets high-end internetworking technologies for applications where performance and fault tolerance are essential. SynOptics sees a convergence of high-speed switching and routing functionality at intelligent hubs, and hopes to enhance its position as a major player in the high-end market with the integration of Coral’s internetworking technologies with its own switching capabilities. SynOptics offers a managed, high-speed communications system designed to support new classes of enterprise and multi-enterprise applications, and structured around the intelligent hub as its key building block.
