SYNOPTICS PLUGS NEW LATTISNET PLUGS

By CBR Staff Writer

Synoptics Communications Inc has added two new host modules to its LattisNet premises and department concentrators offering new plug options. The Model 407 Unshielded Twisted Pair Host Module and Model 403 Attachment Unit Interface Host Module can be used with LattisNet Model 1000 Premises Concentrators or Model 1010 Department Concentrators. The new Model 407 has one 50-pin telco connector on the front panel instead of eight RJ-45 connectors on the existing version. The 50-pin connector as a cable assembly for wiring applications of 25-pair bundles of unshielded twisted pair. LattisNet uses eight pairs, which run between the LattisNet concentrator and the telephone punch-down block. The Model 407 has a set of link status indicators, one for each of the eight channels on the host module. The Model 407 supports Ethernet over most telephone wiring already installed in buildings. The Model 403 connects up to four workstations in the same room via an Ethernet drop cable, simplifying the connection between a concentrator and workstation, and reducing the cost of LattisNet by about $155 per node. The 403 can also link a LattisNet concentrator to a thick- or thin-wire co-ax backbone.
