SynOptics Inc has launched network management applications for small to mid-sized networks, based on its Simple Network Management Protocol and fashioned after its LattisNet Standard Ethernet Network Management system, launched in 1988. Through a central network management station, the management system provides physical layer monitoring and control of LattisNet Ethernet networks, helping to reduce network downtime and operations costs through isolating and troubleshooting problems. LattisNet Standard Network Management is designed for large, complex enterprise-wide networks the basic version is aimed at low-density networks where fewer connections are made at fewer wiring closets. It provides a geographic mapping capability, which enables the network manager to draw a map of the network hierarchy, using icons that represent specific components of a LattisNet Network. A centralised alarm manager graphically shows the location of network problems in real-time. As in the Standard Lattisnet, the Expanded View feature provides a real-time graphic representation of the new Model 2310 and existing System 3000 concentrators. Network managers can partition individual ports as well as display port-level network diagnostic and activity information, including media access control and physical layer statistics. The package is available for both IBM AT and Micro Channel personal computers, and it costs $2,300.
