Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Symplex Communications has announced what is claimed as the lowest-priced Ethernet ISDN router on the market. The DirectRoute RO-1 Bronze, which is to carry an introductory price tag of $500, is being pitched at telecommuter and small office-home office applications. It comes with IP and IPX routing and bridging; one Basic Rate Interface line; multilink Point-to-Point Protocol support; and compression and spoofing. According to the company it supports up to four local network devices, basic filtering, and two active profiles. Two other models are also being launched: the Silver, costing $800, which is the same but with support for up to 10 local network devices and four active profiles, and the Gold, priced at $ 1,000 which is said to support an unlimited number of local network devices, and 12 active profiles. The Bronze model is also software upgradable to the Gold. All models are shipping now.
