Under the terms of the agreement, JDA will serve as a Symbol Integrator and obtain the use of Symbol’s application development environment, WaveWorks, to create new solutions for retail and packaged goods clients, and re-sell Symbol’s hand-held computers.
JDA’s future plans are to deploy its Internet Portals on Symbol wireless hand-held computers at client stores’ point-of-activity, providing store associates with access to inventory positions, price checks, transfer requests, purchase orders and other critical business functions. The innovative Symbol/JDA solution will also enable retailers to leverage their sizable investment in merchandising and inventory systems at corporate headquarters by extending secure access to associates at the store level. Several of JDA’s applications already run on Symbol mobile devices operating on Symbol’s Spectrum24 wireless infrastructure.
JDA and Symbol are also working on developing an offering to streamline the process of receiving and shelving merchandise and accelerating planogram placements and resets. The companies forecast that this solution will be tested for market applications in 2002.
JDA’s expertise in global retail enterprise solutions is a great match with Symbol’s wireless computing solutions, said Stanley P. Jaworski, Jr., vice president and general manager, Symbol Channels and Alliances. Together, Symbol and JDA enable point-of-activity solutions that bring customers inherent efficiencies, cost savings and customer satisfaction.
There are countless opportunities in the fast-emerging mobile Internet market to help our clients put dollars on their bottom lines while driving customer loyalty, said Scott Hines, senior vice president of In-Store Systems and chief technology officer.
