Symbian triples OS shipments

Symbian Ltd yesterday said that shipments of its operating system for mobile phones tripled to 7.8 million from a year ago.

By CBR Staff Writer

More Symbian OS phones were shipped during the first half of 2005 versus the whole of last year, said the London-based company.

Although we are delighted by Symbian’s H1 performance, shipments of Symbian OS phones remain small relative to the overall handset market, said chief executive Nigel Clifford, in a statement.

Symbian’s strategic focus must remain on driving increased shipments through the adoption of Symbian OS for further handset models, and particularly for the development of lower price, mid-range handsets designed to ship in higher volumes.
