The Symantec Moscow office has announced its income for the third quarter of 1993. Turnover totalled $182,000. This was 2.7 times greater than in the second quarter. The company put the better-than-expected results down to interest in the Russian version of Norton Commander, Russian Norton Desktop for Windows and the JustWrite word processor for Windows . The firm says sales of Norton Desktop were up by a factor of two to three while sales of Russian JustWrite soared to 14 times their level in the second quarter. The company says demand was also strong for Russian versions of Norton Utilities, PC Norton, pcAnywhere and Symantec C++. In 1994 Symantec has begun the distribution of Russian C++ Professional priced at $250.00 with a discount for upgrades. The company has also started the distribution of Russian Norton Commander 4.0. The price will be $40, $30 for upgrades. Russian TimeLine for Windows is priced at $90, $50 for upgrades. A company spokesman says the main barriers to business in Russia are the cash flow problems of Russian enterprises and the reluctance of state organisations to buy legal software.
