Symantec sponsors CyLab

Symantec Corp said this week it has made a $100,000 sponsorship to CyLab, a six-month-old internet security research lab out of Carnegie Mellon University. Symantec becomes a Strategic Partner as a result.

By CBR Staff Writer

CyLab was created in October. It works closely with US-CERT, the cybersecurity coordinating body that works with the US Department of Homeland Security’s Cyber Security Division, itself headed up by former Symantec executive Amit Yoran.

Symantec said its relationship with CyLab will give it access to research and technology generated by its staff, faculty and students. CyLab got a $750,000 government grant in November to fund research into whether diversity principles found in biological systems can be applied to software.
