Rumors in the utilities business are that Symantec Corp’s looking for a buyer for Norton Administrator for Networks, hears CliENT Server News. The product line has been humbled in the market by McAfee Associates Inc’s network administration program in particular and by Novell Inc, Seagate Technology Inc, Intel Corp and Cheyenne Software Inc products in general. There has also been an exodus of Norton Administrator staff recently, starting at the top with senior group product manager Jonathan Niednagel, who was joined by development manager Jack Horner in a move to Cybermedia Inc, these days a haven for ex-Norton developers and executives, many of whom are now on a Cybermedia staff that has grown from 20 people to 150 in the last year. The two companies are rumored to be working on a top-secret Cybermedia network console for Windows95/NT servers that will control its FirstAid97 systems utility running on Windows95 clients now and on NT clients by the second quarter.
